Office Headsets come in an variety of styles to cover a many uses from a number of manufacturer's .The three main manufacturers of office headsets are Plantronics, Jabra and Sennheiser. Choosing the right headset can often be daunting, so here is a brief guide to what is available.
Corded headsets were the first headsets being used commercially and are still extremely popular with many businesses today, especially with contact centres and places with a high number of staff favouring these types of headsets. They are usually plug and play with a variety of connection cables available to ensure they have that virtual compatibility with all current desk phones. The basic corded headset is also the cheapest type, not everyone needs a higher specification model.
Headsets styles vary within the corded headset genre with the over the ear, headband and behind the neck styles being the main three styles available. The different manufacturers have varied approaches on these styles giving you a truly broad spectrum of headsets to choose from.
Introduced a decade ago wireless headsets, and these have seen massive technological improvements within the field, which continues with new and improved features being added to models all the time.
Wireless headsets use DECT technology and Bluetooth technology to achieve a wireless connection. Whereas DECT is the more able technology of the two, offering a longer range and encrypted signal, Bluetooth was being used mainly for mobile headsets. However the tide is turning and Bluetooth has become the more used of the two technologies with many major manufacturers such as Plantronics and GN Netcom utilising Bluetooth technology with their latest headset models. This is mainly due to Unified Communications, or in other words headsets, that work with many devices in the office. So a new generation of Bluetooth headsets are compatible with your Bluetooth mobile phone, desk phone and PC. This obviously has huge money saving implications for companies.
As with corded headsets, you find wireless headsets in a number of wearing styles, from over the ear, over the head, in the ear and behind the neck models, with each manufacturer having a varied approach to each wearing style.
Whether you're thinking choosing a corded headset or debating whether to go wireless, my advice is to do a little bit of groundwork and look into all the available models with their varying features and functions to ensure you get the perfect headset for you.
