Learning and understanding all of the PGA golf rules can take a lot of time. There are however some basic standards that every golfer should adhere to right from the first time they step out onto a golf course. These next two rules are not difficult to learn or understand and can be implemented within seconds of playing your next round of golf. Make Sure You Always Play The Same Golf Ball Of all the PGA golf rules this is one of the most common that newbie golfers break when first starting out in the game. What it states is that you must continue to play with the same golf ball as you initially teed off with on a particular hole until you put the ball into the hole. You can change balls every hole if you wish but you cannot change midway through a hole. There are a few exceptions to the rule that can prevent a golfer from using the same ball. Most common one would be if a golfer hits the ball into a water hazard and the ball is deemed lost. The player may also lose his golf ball in the woods, forest or even out of bounds onto a road or parklands. In some cases another golfer playing another hole may accidentally play your ball allowing you to replace without penalty and complete the hole. Always Play The Golf Ball As It Lies Personally I think of all the PGA golf rules this one is overlooked and broken by most golfers at some point or another. What it means is that you must play the ball where it lands from your previous shot whether it is on the fairway, bunker, green or even behind a palm tree. For example, if you hit the ball in a bunker and ball buries itself where you can only just see the top of the ball, you cannot just pick it up and improve your lie so you have a better chance of the hitting the next shot. You have to do the best you can with the equipment you have to make the golf swing and hopefully get the ball back into play. Similar to the other PGA golf rules there are some exceptions which allow the golfer to move his or her golf ball. One of these is if your ball ends up on a cart path with defined tracks or tire marks you can then remove and place the ball to the nearest point of relief. Also if your ball ends up behind or on top of a sprinkler head. You have the right to move the ball to the nearest point of relief to allow yourself to perform a normal golf shot. You may also in these situations clean the ball of any mud or debris before placing it on the ground. Another common exception to this rule is if you are playing golf in wet weather and the golf course has puddles of water spread across it. When this occurs you are allowed to pick up your ball and place it to the nearest dry point of relief where you can play your next golf shot. This exception includes any spot where your ball lands and when you take your normal stance you can see water come out of the ground.
