Children's Bedroom Furniture; Make It An Image Of Your Kid's Identity

By: Jeffrey Bruce

Years ago you could not find furniture to suite a child's likes and size. Furniture came down from grandpa or from your own parents. It was infrequent that parents would go looking for kid friendly furnishings for there child's bedroom. Children's bedroom furniture has grown into a big business these days. Beds come in different shapes and in different sizes. The old rustic wooden bunk bed has been replaced with more interesting metal framed bunks in bright hues and day beds have become popular for girls. Today beds can resemble just about anything and they can even hang from the ceiling or be up high on stilts with a homework station positioned underneath.
Cribs do not have to just be cribs anymore and transform into beds. This furniture will work for several years and your child will not grow out of it until high school. Traditional beds can still be found with wooden headboards that are sometimes painted with interesting murals. These pieces can follow your child into adulthood if you like.
For girls canopy beds are still popular and you can still purchase them in any furniture store. If you do not have the money for them canopies are sold that can be attached from the ceiling with fabric that cascades down around the bed.
Beds are no longer rectangular but can be found in strange shapes resembling castles and racing cars. They are composed of a plastic frame with a custom mattress that will only fit your child for a little while. These beds sit low and if the child falls out they will not get hurt. The plastic parts rise above the level of the mattress to make it harder to fall out. These plastic beds cost a bit of money but if you are looking for something cute, these are what you will want to buy.
It might be better to purchase a regular bed and use the bedding to create the interest. You can get such beautiful and interesting bedding that will fall into the theme of race car or princess that will not cost near as much as a bed. Bedding comes in many different themes including those popular cartoon characters the kids love or you can find bedding in anything the child is drawn to from fairies to fire engines or police cars.
Beds are not the only thing that come in more imaginative styles; the rest of the room furniture does too. You can get multi-colored baskets and bins that kids can put there clothes or toys and some even attach to rolling frames that can move from one side of the room to the other with just a push. Storage cubes come in many different fabrics including fun fur and kids can put small toys and games in them using the outside for sitting on.
Having an office setting in the bedroom is popular in children's rooms mostly because kids today have their own computers and they need a place to put them. Desks come in bright colors and computer desks are relatively inexpensive and easy to put together. You can even purchase two drawer file cabinets in bright interesting colors that are suitable for both girls and boys. If you can not find them just use metal paint to give them a coat of color.
Bookshelves are a must in a child's room. Every kid should have bunches of books to read and you can get inexpensive bookshelves at discount stores, or you can get nice ones that will follow your child into adulthood. Also available are wooden cubes made of particle board that can be painted in bright colors or the color of you little one's favorite sports team.
Your child's bedroom should have a personality of its own and reflect the favorite things of the child. Sure, kids have sleep in their rooms but they also entertain friends and play and they need to feel that this room is part of their personality. You can do this by finding the best kid's furniture to do the job.
